For more than a century, a statue known as “the Christ of West Lake Road” has stood as a beacon, first to boaters on Canandaigua Lake looking for a chapel that served early 20th century lake worshipers, and for the past 90 years farther uphill, on a hilltop visible from West Lake Road and the Notre Dame Retreat House. Christine Farren, a granddaughter of the landowners who worked to preserve the statue, will tell the story of its integral role in the recreational history of Canandaigua Lake and the wider cultural heritage of the Canandaigua area.
