History and Mystery: The Interpreted Folklore and Legends of the Bristol Hills

At this general meeting of the Bristol Hills Historical Society, to be held at the South Bristol Town Hall, we will introduce artist Anna Overmoyer to the membership.

A professor at RIT, and a native of Bloomfield, Ms. Overmoyer has been chosen to interpret some the history , legends and mysteries of our Bristol Hills in a series of paintings. These painting will be commissioned works by individuals who will share with the BHHS the right to reproduce the image created.

The main use intended for the images is in a book the BHHS is looking to publish, but prints and notecards are possibilities, too.

Ms. Overmoyer will show examples of her work and discuss her creative thinking process when she is developing a painting that tells a story. At the meeting individuals can present a photo of a scene, or landscape, that they want to be included in the book. These scenes can include a known historical event to be portrayed. With this concept, then a plan of how to include the event in the scene will be worked out to tell the desired story. If no singular event is known , an image from Seneca folklore can be included, or one of the artist's many creations will be worked in to stay with the magic and mystery themes of the book. For more information, see this October 2020 press release on this creative fund-raising project.
