In the summer of 2022, the anthropology department at Geneseo College conducted an archaeological field school at the Burt-Wilder farm on Case Road in Bristol, adjacent to the Burning Springs farm. The farm dates to 1797 and was the home of the Burt family and then the Wilder family, both of which helped found and establish the town of Bristol. Mia Iverson and Dr. Marie-Lorraine Pipes will present a summary of the excavations, which located the foundations of a springhouse and barn, as well as a large cellar. The site yielded a wide range of artifacts that reflect different activities that took place at the farm and that tell the story of daily life in Bristol in the late 18th to early 19th centuries. Read more about it in this press release.
